Questions

Do you take health insurance?

Yes! Learn more about specifics here. Self-pay and sliding scale are also accepted. Reach out for more information!

What are sessions like?

You and I can work together to decide what we want treatment to look like, getting very specific about what will work best for you through this process! How sessions look is unique for everyone based on your needs.  We can talk this through at length; your feedback is important to determine which approaches will be most helpful.

How can I make the most out of our sessions?

Your active participation and dedication to making changes outside of the session is crucial for your success.  It’s the work you do outside of our sessions that will help you see growth. It is also helpful to potentially think about what you’d like to work on prior to the start of the session, so that we can go in the directions that are most helpful for you. A good way to approach that would be to take notes throughout the week of things that come up for you that you’d like to process while in therapy.

What kinds of services do you offer?

I offer individual therapy for adults via telehealth. I don’t offer child, couples or family therapy at this time.

What is your availability?

I am currently scheduling daytime sessions for Tuesdays and Wednesdays via telehealth. I cannot accommodate evening sessions at this time. All of my sessions for 3:00 pm and later are currently full, but I have openings at varying times from 9:00 am-2:00 pm.

Do I have to have an official ADHD, autism, OCD, etc. diagnosis?

Not at all! You can be formally diagnosed, suspecting, curious, or otherwise. It doesn’t have to be the focal point of the session (but it can be, if you want it to be!). If you think you are neurodivergent, this is helpful in better understanding how you experience the world. I am neurodivergent affirming, so we can figure out strategies that help you uniquely!

Why isn’t your phone number listed anywhere?

There are a lot of spam calls and scams going around, so instead, clients can reach out via my “contact” tab where they can send a detailed message about how I can best help them. I streamline all of my communication into one place (outside of our scheduled sessions), this being by email.

I see you are active on social media, how does that work?

The intention of social media is not to diagnose, provide therapy or therapeutic interventions, crisis services or any other purpose outside of entertainment. Any communication on these platforms (likes, comments, follow, shares, etc.) does not constitute a therapeutic relationship and is not implied to be professional mental health, medical, legal, or other advice. Kelsey Chizmar Therapy, LLC assumes no liability for diagnosis, treatment, decisions, or actions made upon information on social media pages. These accounts are not regularly monitored. If you are having an emergency, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.

How often do we meet?

This is the lowest level support, typically intended for once weekly or biweekly sessions.

What happens if I am having an emergency outside of the session?

Kelsey Chizmar Therapy, LLC is not equipped to handle urgent or emergency situations. This website, social media accounts, email and phone are not monitored outside of Therapist working hours. Therapist cannot accommodate urgent requests for sessions or otherwise, as this is the lowest support level of care. Resources for urgent situations can be found here.

What is your cancellation policy?

Sessions must be canceled at least 48 regular hours prior to the session day/time. I have set this session time aside for only you, so tiered cancellation fees apply and are outlined in the initial paperwork.

If you’re in a situation where it’s difficult to know what your schedule will look like ahead of time, week to week scheduling is available, along with the ability to be on a cancellation list to be contacted when there are last minute openings.

Sometimes we have the urge to avoid something uncomfortable, which may make you feel like you want to cancel.  Usually when you least feel like coming to therapy, is when you need it the most.  This policy holds you accountable for your commitments and encourages you to work through uncomfortable feelings.  This is a good way to work toward creating lasting change, and we can process all of this during your session.

What kinds of payments do you accept?

I use HIPAA compliant platforms such as Headway, TherapyNotes and IvyPay to bill insurance, and all clients must have a valid credit card or HSA card on file at all times regardless of copay amount. Payments are collected after the session within 24 hours. Should a payment method be denied, clients cannot schedule their next session until the payment is completed. This is because the platforms I use for billing won’t let me submit a claim to insurance until the payment is processed first.

Do you prescribe medications?

As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I cannot prescribe medications. I can provide you with referrals for providers who prescribe medication.

Important note about paperwork:

At this time, I cannot accommodate providing paperwork for FMLA, legal proceedings, disability, workers’ compensation, emotional support animals or otherwise. I can however provide referrals for other practitioners such as a PCP, psychiatrist, etc if someone needs them. Any paperwork that may need completed outside of these circumstances must be completed together while in session so that you and I can be on the same page about answering all of the questions most accurately.

I am not contracted through EAP, workers’ compensation or other companies, so I cannot complete paperwork or charge for these types of sessions.  However, I can bill your insurance and give you invoices to submit to workers’ compensation should you want to try and pursue that; but I cannot guarantee reimbursement from these companies.
